My 40th birthday trip

Burning the candle at both ends

I had all these grand intentions of posts and updates, but in my usual fashion, I’m burning the candle at both ends.

Between work, study, exercise and keeping the family alive, I really haven’t had any time for anything else. I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten how to craft. Which is a shame as I have more supplies than I’ll ever probably use.

This year I have celebrated my 40th birthday and I took myself off to Antarctica as a present. Random, right?! It’s a story in a story, to be honest. How long have you got?

I don't look a day over 21

Also, at the end of last year, I signed up for a marathon. It’s on my bucket list, so I have to do it at some point and I figure I should do it now before my body falls apart, as opposed to just succumbing to middle-age spread. So I’ve been running a bit. I am trying to do 4 runs per week, with one of those being a long run. I’m not always consistent.

Additionally, I am still studying. Yes, this is now my 7th year of part time study. I still have a year and a half to go, but at the end of it, I’ll have a Bachelor of Business and a Diploma in Town Planning. Town planning was for fun, but it’s been such an eye-opener of a degree. I’ve enjoyed the humanities side of it. I don’t enjoy Business, but it’s a means to an end. I need a piece of paper declaring a degree, so it’ll do.

Work has been great, I’m enjoying my new job. Although it’s a year since I made the change, so I’m not sure it’s new anymore. Working from home has been fantastic and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

Now craft. I started this year by joining a few classes, Ali Edwards One Little Word and Cathy Zielske Scrapbook Your Year. I haven’t dedicated enough time to either of these projects. I’d like to say that I’m going to finish the year strong, but I know me. Maybe I’ll have better luck next year?

I did start painting during isolation due to the coronavirus. Who knew I could paint?! Not me, so that was a nice surprise. Of course, I went crazy and bought all the paint and brushes and paper, but then my focus changed and I haven’t painted since.

Learning to paint in isolation

I’ve not slowed down in buying books, but I’ve only read two so far this year. The first one was Follow me to Ground which was a book club recommendation. It was not my normal genre so I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. The second book was Running like a Girl, and it was so inspirational that I felt really dedicated to running after completing it.

First book read of 2020

Maybe I should be burning the candle at both ends tonight, so maybe I should leave it there. I hope there will be proper updates soon enough.
